Mongolia has confirmed another welcome push for international travellers by extending its visa-free entry program for citizens of 34 countries through January 1, 2027. This move ensures smoother travel planning for tourists and continues the nation’s efforts to boost global tourism and cultural exchange. 

What the Visa-Free Extension Means

Originally introduced in 2023, Mongolia’s visa exemption policy allowed travellers from selected countries to enter without applying for a visa in advance. With the extension now confirmed, eligible visitors can stay in Mongolia for up to 30 days without a visa, making it easier and more affordable to explore the country’s wide-open landscapes, rich history, and nomadic culture.

Who Can Visit Mongolia Without a Visa?

Citizens holding ordinary passports from the following countries can enter Mongolia visa-free until January 1, 2027:

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. 

Special Rule for South Korean Travellers

In addition to the standard 30-day visa-free stay, South Korean citizens can stay up to 90 days without a visa under the extended “Visit Mongolia Year” tourism initiative, continuing through the end of 2026. 

What You Should Know Before You Go

Although visa requirements are waived, travellers must still meet basic entry conditions at the border, such as:
– Having a passport valid for at least six months from date of arrival.
– Showing proof of onward or return travel.
– Being ready to provide accommodation details if requested by immigration officials. 

Visa-free entry does not replace visa requirements for employment or long-term stays. If you plan to work, study, or stay longer than the allowed period, you must apply for the relevant Mongolian visa.
