Thailand has reported 171 deaths and more than 1,200 injuries from road accidents during the first four days of the New Year holiday travel period, highlighting ongoing road safety concerns during one of the country’s busiest travel seasons.

According to official data, a total of 1,216 road accidents were recorded between December 27 and December 30, resulting in 1,208 injured persons and 171 fatalities.
Motorcycles accounted for the majority of crashes, followed by pickup trucks and passenger cars. Most accidents occurred on straight roads, with speeding and drunk driving listed as the leading causes.
